Volunteering: A Work Of Heart
Every day of the year the truth and strength of that statement is exemplified by the commitment to service and to caring evidenced by the Decatur Memorial Hospital volunteer team.
Whether young in age or young at heart, DMH volunteers share their hearts and their talents in service to the hospital, its patients, visitors and guests. Whether working with patients in one or more of the patient care service areas, or providing great customer service to visitors and guests in one of the Auxiliary shops, or working in support of hospital staff in a variety of clerical services, DMH volunteer partners truly bring an added measure of quality to DMH’s commitment to customer service and satisfaction.
And volunteering has its own rewards: new friendships, new experiences, new challenges, and the satisfaction that comes from knowing that your efforts truly make a positive difference in the quality of life for our community.

About the DMH Auxiliary
Established in 1954, the DMH Auxiliary is a not-for-profit organization of more than 500 community volunteers dedicated to promoting, up-holding and advancing the mission and values of Decatur Memorial Hospital. This purpose is accomplished through direct service to the hospital, its patients and guests through Auxiliary-sponsored service projects and through sponsorship of fund-raising activities directed toward enhanced provision of patient equipment and services for the hospital. Over its 52-year history, the Auxiliary has raised and subsequently contributed more than $6 million to the hospital.
Junior Auxiliary Program
Open to students between the ages of fourteen and eighteen, the Junior Auxiliary affords area teens the opportunity to explore possible careers in health care while experiencing first-hand the personal rewards to be gained through service to others. Juniors work in nearly all service project areas of the hospital after school on weekdays and during the day on the Saturdays. For additional information or to obtain the Junior Auxiliary application packet, contact the Volunteer Services office at 876-2800 or e-mail.
