This is the most frequently performed of all ultrasound examinations. The most common reason for this exam is pain especially if thought to be from the gallbladder. Preparation involves 4 hours of fasting. This examination looks at the gallbladder, liver, spleen, kidneys, and pancreas. A typical exam takes approximately 45 minutes.
