Ultrasound

Ultrasound does not use any radiation to obtain it's images. Instead, ultrasound utilizes sound waves similar to a sportsman's fish-finder.

At the time of your scheduled appointment a certified technologist will come to the waiting room to greet you. You will change out of your clothes and into a gown. The technologist will then escort you to one of our four ultrasound suites.

On the way, the technologist will ask you a brief history. This allows for the most accurate examination.

A water soluble gel is placed on the body part to be scanned and a hand held device called a transducer similar in appearance to a microphone is rubbed on the body to acquire the images. A television screen shows the images as they are obtained.

Preparation for these exams varies dependent on the body part being scanned. A typical examination takes approximately takes approximately 30 minutes.
