Center for Minimally Invasive Surgery

What is Minimally Invasive?

A minimally invasive medical procedure is defined as one that is carried out by entering the body through the skin or through a body cavity or anatomical opening, but with the smallest damage possible to these structures.

When minimally invasive surgery is done, it is performed with the aid of scopes that allow the surgeon to see inside the body. It generally involves use of laparoscopic devices and remote-control manipulation of instruments with indirect observation of the surgical field through an endoscope or similar device.
