DMH Offers Free H1N1 Flu Clinic Oct. 17

Decatur Memorial Hospital will host a free community H1N1 flu clinic on Saturday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to noon in the DMH Classrooms.

The vaccine protects against getting the H1N1 flu virus. The virus in the H1N1 vaccine has been killed, so you cannot get H1N1 flu from the vaccine.

Saturday’s H1N1 flu clinic is specifically for:

  • people age 18 to 24
  • people who care for infants 6 months of age and younger
  • day care workers
  • people age 25 to 64 that have a chronic medical condition like heart disease, kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease or a metabolic disease like diabetes, asthma, anemia or other blood disorders

Decatur Memorial Hospital received its first shipment of H1N1 vaccine on Oct. 16, and immediately began administering the doses to its employees and Medical Staff to protect all hospital workers from H1N1 flu. DMH has 1,500 H1N1 vaccine doses to be administered at Saturday’s community flu clinic. The Macon County Health Department will administer H1N1 flu vaccines to children once they become available.
