November 17, 2005
Decatur, Ill… A check for $26,000 was presented to Decatur Memorial Foundation today from the Sandy McKenzie Memorial Golf Tournament Committee with funds raised during the Fifth Annual Sandy McKenzie Golf Tournament. These funds will be used for breast cancer research in Decatur and Macon County; the Mammography Initiative (no-cost screening mammograms to women who meet the financial guidelines) and breast cancer support groups, in memory of Ms. McKenzie, who lost her fight with breast cancer in 2000.
The golf tournament, presented by Miller Lite, drew 116 golfers to Southside Country Club on September 12, raising a total of $26,000. According to Co-Chair of the tournament Denny Harris, the event has raised a total of $100,000 over the past five years.
A longtime hospital friend and supporter, Sandy McKenzie died of breast cancer in 2000.
