Kirkland Fine Arts Center will be a stop Saturday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m., for the Heartstrings World Tour concert of international pop artist/movie star Olivia Newton-John.

The concert is being brought to Decatur by Millikin University and Decatur Memorial Hospital to help benefit the DMH Women’s Health & Breast Center for early detection of breast cancer through digital mammography. Tickets will go on sale for the two-hour benefit concert at 5 p.m., Friday, July 28, at the Kirkland Box Office, or by calling 424-6318 to reserve your tickets by phone, or online at www.millikin.edu/kirkland/. Tickets range in price from $40 to $60.

The concert features Newton-John, accompanied by a small orchestra. She will perform songs from the movies “Grease” and “Xanadu” as well as from her numerous albums and hit singles. She will also speak in between songs about her experience with breast cancer.

Fifty-seven-year-old Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 at age 44 and underwent a partial mastectomy of her right breast. Her treatment included chemotherapy followed by breast reconstruction. This experience led to her writing and producing a musical album in November 1994 called “Gaia” which allowed her to reflect upon how she overcame breast cancer.

The DMH Women’s Health & Breast Center provides a comprehensive program for women who are experiencing breast cancer. Some of the most advanced technology is available to detect even subtle signs of early-stage breast cancer. With the use of digital mammography at DMH, breast cancer detection has been significantly advanced.

Additional sponsors of the Decatur benefit concert include: Archer Daniels Midland, Brechnitz Group of Raymond James, Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois, Caterpillar, Cromwell Communications Group, C.
