DMH Children’s Play Area at Hickory Point Mall
A children’s play area at Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth, located near the entrance to Kohl’s, provides 1,262-square-feet of play area for small children (42 inches or smaller) to wear off some energy while parents take a short break from shopping.
Cushioned benches encompass the play area, allowing adults to comfortably supervise their children as they crawl, climb and slither around on the soft, coated foam structures. These include hospital-related items such as a miniature hospital building, band-aid, first-aid kit and blood pressure cuff.
The padded floor helps ensure a fun and safe environment and a shoe cubby is provided at the entrance to securely house children’s shoes while they play.
A huggable version of Decatur Memorial Hospital’s “Goodwill Ambassador,” Dr. Ted E. Barnes, greets children at the entrance with a clipboard listing safe play rules and a helpful way for children to check their height. The “real” Dr. Ted E. Barnes visits the play area and passes out treats to children several times each year.
The play area officially opened for “business” Aug. 2000.
